About Us

Welcome to SuperCookers.com

Hello, I’m Alice Waters — chef, author, food activist, and the person behind SuperCookers.com.

I have spent more than five decades believing in one fundamental idea: that food has the power to change the world. Not just the food we eat in celebrated restaurants, but the food we cook at home, every single day — with care, with intention, and with the best ingredients we can find. SuperCookers.com was created to share that belief as widely as possible.

This site is for everyone who wants to cook better, eat better, and live better. Whether you are just beginning your journey in the kitchen or you have been cooking for decades, there is something here for you. Because truly great cooking is not about complexity or credentials — it is about being present, being curious, and letting the ingredients lead the way.

The Story Behind SuperCookers.com

My culinary life began with a revelation. At nineteen, I traveled to France for the first time and discovered something that changed everything for me: the extraordinary pleasure of simple food made from exceptional ingredients. The markets were full of color and fragrance. The meals were unhurried. The flavors were unlike anything I had ever tasted.

I returned to Berkeley determined to recreate that experience, and in 1971, I opened Chez Panisse — a small neighborhood restaurant in California that would become one of the most influential restaurants in American culinary history. What we built there was more than a restaurant. It was a philosophy: that cooking should be rooted in the seasons, sourced from local and organic farms, and shared generously with others.

SuperCookers.com carries that same philosophy into the home kitchen. It is a place where seasonal ingredients, sustainable sourcing, and the deep joy of cooking come together — for everyone.

What SuperCookers.com Stands For

  • Seasonal cooking. The best ingredient is always the one that is perfectly ripe, right now.
  • Local and sustainable sourcing. Where your food comes from matters as much as how you cook it.
  • Simple food done beautifully. The finest cooking is often the most restrained.
  • Food as a human right. Good food is not a luxury — it belongs on every table.
  • Cooking as an act of love. Every meal you prepare for someone is a gift.
  • The farm-to-table philosophy. Connecting home cooks to the farmers who grow their food.
  • Slow Food values. Patience, presence, and pleasure are the foundations of a nourishing life.

A Life Devoted to Food

Over fifty years, I have had the honor of cooking for, writing for, and teaching thousands of people who share my belief in the transformative power of food. I founded the Edible Schoolyard Project in 1995 to bring sustainable food education to every child in every public school. I have served as Vice President of Slow Food International, advocating for a food economy that is good, clean, and fair. I was awarded the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef, inducted into the French Legion of Honor, and received the National Humanities Medal from President Obama in 2015.

SuperCookers.com is the natural continuation of that life’s work — bringing everything I know and love about food directly to the home cooks who can carry it forward.

My Promise

Every recipe on SuperCookers.com reflects a lifetime of cooking with care and conviction. I will always tell you why an ingredient matters, why a technique works, and why the season you are cooking in is the most important ingredient of all. My promise is that every recipe here is worth making — and that making it will leave you more connected to your food, your table, and the people you love.
